Last Saturday night, I went into Washington DC to see Death Cab For Cutie at the 9:30 Club. Pretty Girls Make Graves, another Seattle area band, opened for them. They were alright, as much as one could expect from an opener, but the real show was the guitarist. The vocalist barely had any worthwhile melodies when contrasted with the stuff he was doing (keep on rocking, brother). Then DCFC took the stage. I hadn't seen 'em live before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Altogether, it wasn't the most spectacular of shows they put on. I figured they would play more exciting songs, more suitable for a live show, but a lot of tracks consisted of that anti-climax Death Cab formula. I'm a huge fan of live covers (every show should consist of a least one and a half), so their rendition of Freedy Johnston's "Bad Reputation" was definately a highlight.
